Electric & Built-In Oven Repair in Toronto & GTA
Oven not reaching temperature? Self-clean cycle stuck? Our technicians repair all types of electric ovens — built-in wall ovens, convection ovens, steam ovens, and range ovens — for all major brands.
Common Oven Repair Problems We Solve
Our certified technicians diagnose and fix all of the following on electric ovens — usually on the first visit across Toronto and the surrounding GTA.
Oven Types We Service
From standard range ovens to premium built-ins — we service every electric oven configuration.
Wall Ovens (Single & Double)
Built-in wall ovens are common in newer high-end Toronto kitchens, especially in condo and renovation builds. We service single and double wall ovens, including the higher repair costs that come with the more complex electronics and installation. Common repairs include bake and broil element replacement, convection fan motors, control boards, door hinges, and temperature sensors.
Range Ovens
The oven below your cooktop in a freestanding or slide-in range. We diagnose and replace bake elements, broil elements, hidden bake elements, oven temperature sensors, door latches, and control boards. Most repairs are completed on the first visit.
Built-In Premium Ovens (Wolf, Thermador, Miele, Gaggenau)
Premium built-in electric ovens from Wolf, Thermador, Miele, and Gaggenau are precision instruments with sophisticated electronics. Their proprietary control boards, multi-mode cooking technology, and soft-close door mechanisms require specialized diagnostic expertise — which our technicians have.
Convection & Steam Ovens
Convection ovens use fan-forced hot air for more even cooking. Steam ovens (Miele, Wolf, Bosch) add water injection for moist, healthy cooking. We service convection fan motors, door seals, water reservoirs, steam generators, and the control electronics specific to these higher-end models.

Self-Clean Cycle Damage: What Toronto Homeowners Should Know
The self-clean cycle is the single biggest cause of unexpected oven failure we see in Toronto homes. The cycle runs the oven cavity at extreme temperatures — 500 to 900°F — for two to four hours to burn off baked-on residue. While effective for cleaning, this routinely damages the oven itself.
Common self-clean damage we repair every week:
- Door latch motors that melt or jam at high heat, leaving the door locked permanently.
- Blown thermal fuses — single-use safety devices that trip and must be replaced before the oven will heat again.
- Failed control boards — heat seeps up through the rear panel and damages the electronics.
- Burned-out hidden bake elements stressed by the extreme temperatures.
- Cracked oven door glass and warped door hinges.
- Carbon monoxide and smoke from the burn-off — Toronto Fire Services has advised against running self-clean cycles, particularly in poorly-ventilated kitchens.
Many manufacturer warranties explicitly exclude self-clean damage, meaning these repairs come out of pocket. If your oven has stopped working after a self-clean cycle, common diagnoses include:
- Door won't unlock after cycle — door latch motor or control board.
- Oven won't heat after cycle — blown thermal fuse or burned element.
- Display blank or showing F-codes — damaged control board.
TrueFix recommends manual cleaning instead — a paste of baking soda and water left overnight, followed by a damp cloth wipe-down, removes most baked-on residue without the heat exposure. If you've already run a self-clean and your oven is misbehaving, call us at (647) 874-2990 for same-day diagnosis.
Oven Temperature Off? Calibration & Sensor Service
If your baking has been failing, your oven probably isn't heating to the temperature you set.
Most ovens drift in accuracy over time — by year 5, many ovens are running 25–50°F off the displayed setting. By year 10, drift of 75°F or more is common. Symptoms:
- Baked goods burning on top or underdone in the middle.
- Recipes that used to work no longer produce expected results.
- Pies and breads taking significantly longer than recipe times.
The fix is usually one of three things:
- Manual calibration adjustment via the control panel (most modern ovens allow ±35°F adjustment built in).
- Oven temperature sensor (RTD) replacement — these resistance thermometers fail gradually and are inexpensive to replace.
- Control board recalibration on premium ovens.
We bring a precision oven thermometer to every diagnosis call and verify actual cavity temperature against displayed temperature. Calibration service is a quick same-visit repair on most ovens.
Repair vs Replace: When Is It Worth Fixing Your Oven?
Built-in ovens are usually worth repairing far longer than range ovens.
Range ovens typically last 13–17 years, built-in wall ovens 15–20 years, and premium built-ins (Wolf, Thermador, Miele, Gaggenau) often clear 20 years with proper service. The 50% rule applies: if a repair costs less than half of replacement and the oven is under 10 years old, repair is the smarter choice.
Repair Makes Sense
- Any built-in wall oven — replacement costs start at $2,500 and run to $8,000+, plus cabinet rework if dimensions don't match
- Oven is under 10 years old (or under 20 for premium built-ins)
- Single component failure: element, sensor, fan, hinge, door latch
- Repair quote is under 50% of comparable replacement cost
- Premium brand with intact cavity and door system
Replacement May Be Smarter
- Warped oven cavity or cracked liner
- Aged budget range oven with full control board failure ($350–$900)
- Convection motor replacement on a tired unit ($250–$500)
- Multiple electronics failures within 12 months
- Obsolete control boards no longer manufactured

Oven Maintenance Tips That Extend Lifespan
Simple habits that prevent the most expensive service calls.
- Skip the self-clean cycle. Use the baking-soda paste method instead (overnight + damp wipe).
- Inspect the door gasket every 6 months — a worn gasket lets heat escape, forces the oven to work harder, and slowly damages the cabinetry above the appliance.
- Test oven accuracy yearly with a $10 oven thermometer from any hardware store. If it's more than 25°F off, schedule recalibration.
- Don't line the bottom of the oven with foil — it traps heat against the bottom element and causes premature failure. Use a foil-lined baking sheet on a lower rack instead.
- Clean spills as soon as the oven cools — burnt-on residue insulates elements and shortens their life.
- Lubricate door hinges annually with high-temp oven-safe lubricant to prevent sagging doors and broken hinge springs.
